You stay overnight with (mostly) Dutch-speaking owners in a small boutique hotel or quinta (country house/farm), rather similar to Italian Agriturismo.
You will fly to one of the international airports Porto, Lisbon or Faro. Where you pick up your rental car and the fly-drive holiday begins. The distances between the accommodations are not far so you can make nice trips during the day of travel.
The best time for a tour through Portugal is spring and autumn.
